Difficult Beginnings
Difficult Beginnings arise where there are a profusion of elements struggling to take form…
Transitioning Out of the Piscean Age (Water) Into the Aquarian Age (Air).
Guidance from Kuan Yin and the I Ching
“You can sense the difficulties that lie ahead on your path. If you nevertheless plunge into the forest of obstacles without an experienced guide, you will surely lose your way.” ~ Hexagram #3 DIFFICULT BEGINNINGS, The I Ching Workbook by R.L. Wing
Ever since 2009, Kuan Yin has offered her assistance through the I Ching and specially chosen Transformation Games, Mind Exercises and Self-care Formulas to help us navigate whatever changes were required. As a time-honored and respected guide in the Healing Arts, her aim has always been to help us stay calm and navigate the chaotic transition from the old paradigm into the New Paradigm with clear minds and hearts.
Now, Kuan Yin wants to help us adjust to the changes that have taken place by exploring what we need to be aware of about the reality of living and navigating in the New Paradigm where the Tao (or gate through which all things move) is likely to flow in varying difficult and chaotic patterns for some time.
Crossing the Bridge Over Difficult Beginnings.
Radical energy shifts that began during the Solstice season of 2020 have escalated since December 21st, 2021. A change in the Cosmos has occurred and any remaining energy coming from the old paradigm, i.e. the Messianic or Piscean Age has shut down completely. That means that the prevailing Water style of manifesting that we knew and used in the old paradigm is no longer available to us.
As Kuan Yin has been warning us would happen since 2009 – the old way of manifesting and working with energy is officially done. Of course, water is always an element that’s essential to life, it’s just no longer the prevailing Elemental style.
I have been turning to her and other angelic guides to help me understand and adjust to the series of radical energy shifts that began on the Solstice of 2021. Her advice, as always, is direct and to the point…
“The Tao is now moving in the style of the lighter, quicker element of Air.
Think about the difference between Air and Water. Water is an element that is flowing, yet dense, moving down in the path of least resistance. Water is the Archetypal Element that governs intuitive, emotional activity. When too much Water gathers in excess and doesn’t move, it stagnates. When it’s gotten out of balance, humans tend to internalize overwhelming emotions and experience dramatic upheavals.
In the old paradigm, emotions lead and thoughts followed.
Difficult Beginnings Under the Influence of Air.
Air also moves, but in a much lighter and quicker way. This element governs mental activity; thoughts – words – decisions and understanding. Air can change its velocity and direction in the flash of an instant, which explains the uptick in explosive weather patterns, wildfires, war activity, misinformation, lies and social volatility.
In general, that means everything is moving much faster, lighter, quicker and more direct than you are used to. Think about the difference between swimming and flying. You can still get from Point A to Point B, however, the effort it’s going to be a very different experience.
Communications Also Need to Adapt.
Likewise with communications. Think about the difference between how sound travels under water and how it travels through the air.
Underwater, sounds are slow moving and muffled. They’re far more easily misconstrued, diverted, ambiguous, distorted and wishy-washy. If the water is heavy, it gets STAGNANT, apathetic and toxic.
This “stuck” condition relates to current social tendencies such as apathy, resistance, self-pity and laziness. You would be wise to release your agreements to utilize this very stagnant energy flow.
Instead, make a conscious choice to activate a new relationship with the Element of Water – fresh and purified to offset the imbalances and SHOCKING effects of past indifference and abuse.
Consciously go beyond thoughts and prayers and make an actual adjustment in how you relate to and utilize this precious resource.
Learning to Manifest Effectively In the New Influence of Air.
In addition, Air governs the Central Meridian, which fuels the brain and the Soul. This enhances rational thought, putting concepts into words, discernment, understanding and decision-making.
In the New Paradigm, thoughts lead and emotions follow.
Examples of successful manifesting includes these components:
- Clear messaging (communication).
- Clear intention (single-minded, simple, straightforward).
- Motivation to cooperate.
Ask yourself how well you are using the mental aspect of Air with these questions:
“Are my thoughts positive?”
“Is my intention clear?”
“Are my motivations life affirming?”
As you consider those questions, make a new agreement with yourself to REFORM how you are interacting with the Elements that have shifted in the flow of energy. Release how you interacted with the Water dominated energy of Pisces and make new agreements to mindfully generate life with the Air energy of Aquarius.
“I REFORM how I utilize the Elements of Water and Air to create life in the New Paradigm.”
“I slow down, simplify and use less force to accomplish my aims.”
The out-dated communication system of the Patriarchy is attempting to maintain the position that only certain people should have power, be heard and respected.
Release your agreements with that system so that you can assume a new position in the New Paradigm, built on a foundation of accessibility, equality, balanced prosperity and willingness to co-operate for the Common Good.
Another agreement to change would be to come from a place of gratitude and joy, rather than from a grumpy, greedy or vengeful place.
“I release agreements to source from greed, dissatisfaction or revenge.”
“I now Source from Gratitude and Joy.”
The adjustments you need to take won’t just happen on their own. In this new environment, having integrity in thought, word and deed is the best way to manifest genuine happiness. Be proactive and intentional with what you want to set up for yourselves.”
Meditate for a few minutes on the new flow of chi’ that’s available through the Element of Air.
Allow it to permeate your mind and body so that you can create, heal and process with greater ease and efficacy.
Creating in the New Paradigm: A Shift in Elemental Influence.
Kuan Yin advises us to study the text for Hexagram #57 PENETRATING INFLUENCE (the Gentle) to learn more about how to navigate under these new conditions:
“Chinese art often depicts the effects of the invisible wind as it influences the landscape. Mountains are shown eroded and sculpted into fascinating forms, trees bend and twist into exotic shapes, clouds roll dramatically across the sky, bringing life-giving rain. In contemplating the wind, the…mind is inspired by the profound effect of a PENETRATING INFLUENCE and how this effect might manifest itself in human affairs.
You are faced with a situation that can be influenced only by gradual efforts in a consistent direction. Gentleness is the key here. Violence and radical movement would only alarm and repel. To influence effectively, you must maintain clearly defined goals over a long period of time. Your efforts should be as inconspicuous as possible. Try to imagine and emulate the gentle, unceasing wind… The time requires patience, a long-term commitment, and a vision of what you ultimately wish to accomplish…
This type of PENETRATING INFLUENCE is not rousing and takes much time, but it makes a lasting and profound impression.” ~ Hexagram #57, The I Ching Workbook by R. L. Wing
In this new energy, cultivate the power of observation to help you adjust quickly to sudden shifts of energy, missteps or over reaching. Forcing things and sudden moves can easily create chaotic energy flow and erratic imbalances, which should be avoided whenever possible.
Part of what that means is we need to:
- Slow down and take things one at a time
- Have clear, unified intentions
- Examine intentions for hidden contradictions and harmful assumptions
- Pay attention to the results we’re getting for our efforts
- Be flexible in case what we’re doing isn’t working
- Patiently and gently let go of resistance to what’s genuinely beneficial.
Emulate the gentle and patient Tree Sloth. Slow down and follow your Soul’s intention:
“It’s time to slow down and focus your energies on what you want to accomplish. Turn your attention 100% toward a clear intention. This is not the time for multi-tasking. If you have too many things going on, you won’t be able to keep track of what’s really important, and something really important is happening in this situation. Save yourself future regrets and resentments by paying attention now.” ~ #23 Tree Sloth from Gifts from the Rainforest
She also advises us to look at Hexagram #34 GREAT POWER:
“Keep in mind that power is a means and not an end in itself. In applying the available forces to the situation at hand, be certain that your timing is exact and that your actions are correct — that is, in the best interest of all concerned. The Chinese point out that actions that combine both correctness and GREAT POWER represent the true character and tendencies in heaven and on earth. The responsibility of correctness in times of GREAT POWER is unparalleled in importance, for actions that are inappropriate or incorrect will pull you and others into chaos.
Although blessed with GREAT POWER, you would be wise to pause and be certain that your proposed objectives are honorable… Unorthodox actions can lead to downfall during powerful times. Be patient, too, and wait for the opportune moment before executing your plan…”
Be instructed by the Praying Mantis. Still your mind and center yourself. Observe what’s really happening before taking action:
Good questions to ask are: What are you paying attention to? Is this a productive use of your time and attention? What would your spirit guide you to focus on instead?
There are unique challenges for those who identify as healers.
Realize that current underlying assumptions about healing and how it works are going through radical upheaval, whether we know it or not. The age of healing through sacrifice is over. Your special gifts and healing powers will need to make adjustments to work well with the new Air/Aquarian energy.
“Know what you want, know what makes you feel good about your Self, know what brings you into harmony with others. These are your guidelines and principles. Other factors that assume control of your behavior or your health or that create inner discord are the obstacles that must be overcome. Be firm, unemotional, gentle, and clear in annihilating them and thereby reforming your Self and your environment.” ~The I Ching Workbook, R.L Wing
Accepting the Challenge.
As you learn to navigate this new energy, you will need to adapt your mindset and decision making skills to the different influences of Air and Water. Use these Archetypal Charts to help you assess how you’re doing:
Kuan Yin leaves us with these words to the wise about how to handle difficult beginnings:
“You can sense the difficulties that lie ahead on your path. If you nevertheless plunge into the forest of obstacles without an experienced guide, you will surely lose your way.” ~ Hexagram #3 DIFFICULT BEGINNINGS, The I Ching Workbook by R.L. Wing

Navigate Reversals During Retrograde
What To Do About Reversals During Retrograde.
Guidance from Kuan Yin
Ever since 2009, Kuan Yin has offered her assistance through specially chosen Transformation Games, Mind Exercises and Self-care Formulas to help us ADAPT to whatever changes were required. As a time-honored and respected guide in the Healing Arts, her aim has always been to help us stay calm and navigate the chaotic transition from the old paradigm of the status quo into the New Paradigm of Common Ground for the Common Good with clear minds and hearts.
Now, she is helping us to adjust to the reality of living in the new energy through the I Ching Guidance of Hexagram #17 ADAPTING. Unfortunately, random energy reversals during retrograde periods like we’re experiencing now are likely to be sudden, intense and frequent.

Advanced Chakra Healing and Clearing ~
Recommended Mind Exercise and Transformation Games to Help You Adjust and Keep Moving with the Flow In the New Paradigm, Rather than Against it.
Environmental imbalances and instability have affected us in so many ways that we’re just beginning to understand. Because our bodies chakras react to and reflect environmental factors, it’s important that we pay attention to how well they’re functioning and proactively rebalance them when needed.
The biggest issues during this period is the tendency for our subtle energy systems to either fragment out or get overloaded and bogged down by destructive energies. As a result, your mood could inexplicably change. Primary or Secondary Chakras might shut down completely or suddenly start running in reverse. This instability can make it very difficult to remain centered and grounded, just at a time when you need to be able to do both things the most!
Add to that the increased divisiveness, chronic health imbalances aggravated by toxins in the environment and the unstable state of our collective mental/emotional health and you’ve got a serious situation that should not be ignored.
For that reason, Kuan Yin has asked me to continue this format so that I can post Mind Exercises and Transformation Games that will help you deflect negative energies and address instability, reversals and toxic patterns in each of the Primary Chakras. It’s my hope that they can enhance your self-healing abilities to keep your chakras more stable and moving in the right direction.
Take a moment and utilize different Intuitive Learning Circles to integrate some of the help she’s offering to help us adapt. Simply meditate gently on each symbol while you consider the positive affirmations that go with them. Relax and breathe into the experience. Don’t worry if the images move around or change in any way. That just means the Circles are working and that your mind and body are coming into balance. Just stay with it until the energy subsides and you feel done. Then, when you’re ready, you can move on to the next symbol.
Here are Kuan Yin’s suggested intentions in this situation:
“I close down negative energy channels from the past.”
“I tap into the beneficial flow of energy now available through the Element of Air.”
“I pull my energy back into the center of my body.”
Be sure to practice each affirmation both crossed and uncrossed over the midline of your body for improved mind body integration.
Once you feel ready, you can go through this list of the primary chakras to get an intuitive hit about how each are doing.
Lets begin with the Root Chakra and move up:
“Our root chakra is red and governs the physical body, our instincts and the assumptions we have about life. It’s located at the very base of the trunk of your body.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the Root needs are physiological – air, food, water, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep and having adequate methods of communication.
Gaze softly at the Root Chakra Key above and then ask yourself:
“Are my physiological needs being met? Am I giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my Root Chakra in balance?
Kuan Yin wants you to access stability and support as you go through difficult times>
Next up is the Second Chakra (also known as the Spleen Chakra):
“The second energy center is referred to here as the spleen chakra because it’s deeply connected to our emotions, digestion and immunity. Its color is orange and is located 2-3 inches down from the navel.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the second level needs are safety oriented – protection from the elements, security, order, law, stability and freedom from fear.
Gaze softly at the Second Chakra Key above for a minute or so. Then ask yourself:
“Are my safety and security needs being met? Am I giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my 2nd Chakra in balance?
Kuan Yin wants you to strengthen your immunity and emotional health>
Continue by addressing the Third Chakra needs:
“The solar plexus chakra is the center of who we are and who we think we are, so it’s fitting that its color is a bright yellow and is located in the solar plexus.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the third level needs include love and belongingness needs – friendship, intimacy, affection and love from work group, family, friends, and romantic relationships.
Gaze softly at the Third Chakra Key above for a minute or so. Then ask yourself:
“Are my love and belongingness needs being met? Am I giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my Third Chakra in balance?
Kuan Yin wants you to reorient yourself and get back into balance>
The Heart Center and Basic Balance:
“Our heart chakra is the bridge between our bodies and the spiritual world. It is where our thoughts and beliefs about love meet the physical expression of it.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the fourth level needs include esteem needs – achievement, self-love, independence, status, dominance, prestige, self-approval, self-respect and respect from others.
Gaze softly at the Fourth Chakra Key below for a minute or so. Then ask yourself:
“Are my compassion and esteem needs being met? Am I giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my Fourth Chakra in balance?
Consider the Fifth Chakra and the Power of Your Word:
“The energy of the throat chakra is about what you put out into the world – having a voice. It’s about speaking your truth and is blue in color, as in ‘true blue’.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the fifth level needs include cognitive needs such as knowledge, meaning, expression, self-mastery and self-awareness.
Gaze softly at the Fifth Chakra Key above for a minute or so. Then ask yourself:
“Are my cognitive needs being met? Am I able to ask for what I need and straightforward in my requests? Am I giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my Fifth Chakra in balance?
Kuan Yin encourages you to speak up and ask for what you really want>
The Sixth Chakra and the Power of Your Perception:
“The third eye chakra contains the energy of insight and wisdom. Located in the center of the forehead just above the eyebrow, this chakra is associated with the color purple.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy Needs the sixth level needs include aesthetic needs – the appreciation of and search for beauty, balance and form, etc. Kuan Yin would add the need need for spiritual insight and understanding.
Gaze softly at the Sixth Chakra Key above for a minute or so. Then ask yourself:
“Are my needs for creativity and spiritual understanding being met? Am I giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my Sixth Chakra in balance?
Kuan Yin urges you to detach from collective drama and herd mentalities that are stressing you out>
The Seventh Chakra and Self-actualization:
“The crown chakra is our connection to spirit. This is the energy center that connects us with divine inspiration. Its color is white as it contains all things and it can cast a golden ring when in states of ecstasy.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the seventh level needs include self actualization needs – realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.
Gaze softly at the Seventh Chakra Key above for a minute or so. Then ask yourself:
“Are my self-actualization needs being met? Are my fulfillment needs blocked in any way? Am I taking action and giving them the proper priority, position and attention for my life to be in balance?”
Do I need chakra balancing here? if so, what would help me to bring my Seventh Chakra in balance?
Kuan Yin wants you to access Soul guidance when lies are everywhere>
In conclusion, Kuan Yin recommends that you take the time to understand and adapt to all the changes going on.
Whether you want to prepare for improved health, career, finances or relationships, your mind and the whole experience will be much happier if you have an ongoing practice that will help you adapt and nurture yourself.

Positive Support for Changing
Intuitive Reading from the I Ching or Book of Change: Positive Support for CHANGING.
In this intuitive reading, Soul Resources offers a variety of SOS formulas and Transformation Games using the Intuitive Learning Circles and the I Ching to lend positive support for CHANGING as we move forward toward the Common Good.
The I Ching
The original intent of the I Ching was based on an Eastern philosophy of observation and marking changes in natural and human events. Through many centuries and contributions from shamans and master teachers, including Lau Tzu and Confucius, the Book of Change was developed into a full philosophy for applying beneficial human conduct to varying circumstances. The Art of Feng Shui is part of that philosophy. We use The I Ching Workbook, by R.L. Wing, Random House, NYC, NY, 1979 as our preferred translation.
Understanding the Larger Picture ~
Throughout much of late spring and summer, the I Ching energy flow for the United States was in a general state of DANGER, Hexagram #29. However, on July 21st, the full moon ushered in a surprisingly active flow pattern of CHANGING (Hexagram #49).
In almost every aspect of life, CHANGE is in the air and is likely to continue well into mid September, continuing with an abundance of external movement and changing circumstances. Whether we like it or not, a massive wave of collective karma has been activated. How we manage all these CHANGES will depend on how well we keep ourselves centered on the goal and what kind of energy we use.
Since we are no longer being governed by the Water based Element of the Piscean Age, a profusion of CHANGING life force no longer has the buffer of Water to smooth, soothe and slow down events. We are now in the Age of Aquarius where the primary movement comes through the Element of Air, which is much faster, lighter and quick to change.
This paradigm shift means our experience of CHANGE is, and will continue to be much more active and abrupt in the coming months.
Navigate Change with The Chinese Zodiac
2024 is the Year of the Yang Wood Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac.
Positive Qualities: Energetic. Confident. Ambitious. Intelligent. Generous.
Challenging Qualities: Unstable. Intolerant. Lack of persistence. Unrealistic.
The Dragon’s Feng Shui Mandala below can give you a sense of what the archetype of the Dragon is about and how it may influence you. If you’re interested, gently contemplate its center and relax. When you’re ready, ask yourself these questions and journal the answers that come:
“What is the most important thing I can focus my energy and effort on during this time in the Year of the Dragon?”
“What is the direction? Why is that important?
How can I utilize the energy of the Dragon to my best advantage?
Are there things I’m wasting time on? Something else I need to know?
Is there something important for me to do?
If so, can I tell what it is and how I would best go about doing it?”
Allow your intuition to come forward and bring guidance from your innermost Self.
Did you know that Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz are both DRAGONS – born in 1964. They are both in their Sexegenary Cycle (60 years), which in Chinese Astrology is an important age of completion and coming together of life experiences. What new changes are they likely to inspire?
Invite the Dragon archetype and his dynamic energy to advise you as you navigate change in your own life.

B) There are lots of reasons why you might be getting off track with your true objectives. Call on the superior intelligence the Dragon to help you pull back from the dangers of a distracted mind with Clear Distractions.
C) The current high energy might encourage you to rush or take chances that aren’t in your best interests. Navigate change safely and stay out of trouble using your extra-intuitive senses with Develop Precognition.
D) Finally, there’s a strong possibility that you’ll come across others who might be threatened by your new sense of confidence. If you’re feeling as though someone is undermining you to throw you off your game, go through this exercise ASAP: Grounding in the Truth and Your Power.
Support for Changing with The I Ching
The purpose of studying the I Ching in the first place is to help us recognize different life flows, learn how to use them and plan appropriately, so that we may more easily manifest our goals. Hopefully, our study will help us adapt and make effective plans for navigating change. Here is a quote from the main text of CHANGING:
Hexagram #49 CHANGING (REVOLUTION), as translated by R.L. Wing:
“The forces at work in the situation are in conflict, leaving the path open to change. Yet the work of bringing about such a change is as difficult as it is important. People fear change because of its unknowable effect upon the future; so when a real need for CHANGING makes itself felt, it is a serious matter indeed. Clarity, forethought, and great devotion are now required to achieve your purpose. If correctly handled, however, the results can lead to a progressive new era…
… be certain to approach CHANGING with a correct and regulated attitude. The change should be gradual, improvement by improvement, so you may gauge the effect. Avoid haste and excessive behavior. This is not a violent revolution, it is a carefully calculated transformation. Keep an eye at all times to the bearing of the cosmic forces and be sure the proposed change is consonant with the times. It will require great perseverance to carry out this vital change, and therefore its correctness will be the leading factor leading both to success and your own continuing credibility.
Finally, your timing in this matter is crucial. Because the results of a CHANGING situation are not evident until the change has already occurred, it is very difficult to demonstrate the reason for change. In order to gain support from others, you must carefully time your efforts. Remove discordant elements as they appear, throw out outmoded or stifling policies when they once again create problems, and establish far-reaching clarity about the future whenever the opportunity presents itself. As the constructive aspects of your activities come to light, you will gain the trust of others. Your self-image will improve, and your influence will spread…
… You may be in the midst of a revolutionary change in your overall point of view. It will take time and effort to bring all the external elements of your life into accord with this new outlook, but success is definitely assured.
~ Hexagram #49 CHANGING, The I Ching Workbook by R. L. Wing, Random House, NYC, NY, 1979
