Right Livelihood Class 2

Staying Focused on your Goal

More answers to the question:
Why is it so hard to manifest what I want in my life?

This class uses Intuitive Learning Circles from the workbooks “Soul Prayer Charts” and “Gifts from the Rainforest” to clear your mind and thinking.

Many people are unable to manifest what they want in life because they are so easily distracted from their goal. Let’s say that someone has a goal to lose 20 pounds in 6 months. Innocently enough, they sit down for an evening in front of the TV, and after about six or seven commercials, they find themselves reaching for the potato chips or a bowl of ice cream without even thinking about it. Is it because they are weak?  Are they incapable? Not at all. It is simply because they are engaging in an activity that is in conflict with their goal.
A similar thing happens in society at large, for example, let’s imagine that we are in a classroom up in the Fourth Dimension and the soul of George W. Bush is giving a lecture on success. He’s probably saying something like this:
“Under the current paradigm on earth, any person in a powerful position is able to avoid responsibility by using confusing doubletalk to distract the people. While everybody is looking at each other, trying to figure out what the hell it is that I just said, I’ve already done something “under the table” and it’s too late for them to do anything about it. This kind of thing happens all the time, and if you think I’m stupid - well, the joke’s on you.
The opposition is easy to defeat, because while I am focused on pushing through my policies, they are busy chasing issues around and being politically correct. They lose sight of the goal, because they want to be liked by everybody. You see, I don’t need to be correct, and I don’t need to be liked, I simply remain focused on my goal.”
Sounds pretty manipulative, doesn’t it? Yet we have to remember that it takes two to tango. When people allow themselves to be distracted, they are buying in to a manipulation that enables others to abuse them. The best way to handle this kind of person or situation is to stay focused on your primary goal and not get caught up in the game of distraction.
You might ask, “do people play these games on purpose?” Whether they are or not doesn’t really matter, because blaming others or trying to figure it out is a distraction in itself. You could commiserate with your friends about how unfair it all is. Then everyone becomes distracted by disappointment, outrage and self-pity. Or you could get really vengeful about it, throw a rock in a window and bring the blame back down on your own head, which then distracts from the whole issue. In every case, these emotional reactions just get you more and more caught up in the game.

What are some of the hallmarks of a person who is unconsciously allowing themself to be distracted?

  • Frequent apologizing.
  • Easily distracted by other people’s problems.
  • Habitually letting people off the hook when they haven’t followed through on their agreements.
  • Inability to sit with other people’s suffering without having to “do something” about it.
  • Enabling or rescuing behavior.
  • Chronic sacrificing or martyrdom.
  • Codependency - protecting other adults from the consequences of their actions or inaction. “I just can’t leave her. She’d fall apart without me”, “You know he can’t handle these things, so I’ve got to.”
  • Not following through on the things they say they are going to do to take care of themselves.
  • Needing to be “nice” or prove that they are “hard working”.
  • Remaining in relationships or situations that are obviously detrimental.

If all of this is unconscious, how can you know when you are being distracted? The most obvious clue is when you are not accomplishing something that you have set out to do. Other symptoms include sudden pains, exhaustion, frustration, or emotional swings for no apparent reason after being with someone, even a casual acquaintance. However, the real source of the problem goes much deeper. The unconscious habitual pattern has deeper roots in society at large and can negatively affect other relationships, your ability to manifest, and can even compromise your health.

Here are a few Circles that will prepare you to step out of the game of distraction and set up your goals so that you can more easily stay focused on them.

Remember that when you are viewing the Circles
Go through the steps below and look at each circle or graph one at a time with a soft gaze for approximately one minute. A shorter or slightly longer time may be necessary, however don’t push or try to force something to happen. Just breathe deeply and relax. The Circle is providing structural support for the contents of the intention, affirmation or question that accompanies it.  Allow yourself to be open and receiving. You may notice subtle energies, memories or emotions running through you or the circles may begin to move, rotate, pulsate or even change colors. This is all part of the experience. Just keep breathing; relax into your body and stay objective. You are encouraged to journal on insights or new ideas that may come to you during the exercise.

Focus your attention on your gut feeling right in your Solar Plexus as you look at this graph. How does it feel when you’ve been listening to a manipulative person?
Is that the way that you want it to be?

Essential Self

Imagine that you can unplug from manipulative communications that come from society and the status quo. Use this graph to help you.

Status Quo

Establish healthy autonomy by standing in the middle of your personal garden and evicting the agendas, expectations and demands of the status quo.

Healthy Autonomy

The next step is to take a few minutes to look at a sequence of Circles out of Gifts from the Rainforest and Soul Prayer Charts that will help you to extract yourself from these outward manipulations.

Note: G will stand for Gifts from the Rainforest and S will stand for Soul Prayer Charts

Intuitive Learning Game Mascot

G #49     Old Sol
Move your ego to the side and contact your higher wisdom. Reestablish the authority of your Soul in your garden.

G #22     Mosquito
Clear out the negative messages that are distracting you - like removing grafitti from your garden.

S #10     Air
Instead of operating on the wavelength of the status quo, tune into the wavelength of your inner wisdom, as if tuning your radio to the channel you want to listen to.

G #23    Tree Sloth
Now that you have reestablished your authority, Consciously slow down and focus in on what’s really important right now.
Remind yourself of your overall goal.
Write it down and call it “Primary Goal”. Post it someplace where you will see it often.

G #38     Shaman’s Leaves
Allow this graph to assist you as you continue to clear your thoughts.

S #4    Shedding
Let go of agendas, expectations and demands from those adults who are closer to you.

S #14  Soul Color
Now that your mind is quiet, look at this Circle and ask yourself, “What is the primary task I could be doing that is the most important in achieving my goal”?
Write it down and call it “Primary Task”.

G #36    Plant Spirits
As you inhale, ask yourself, “ What am I taking in?” As you exhale, ask, “What am I putting out”? Accept the answers that come. Every time you accept what is happening now, you make room for change to occur. When you experience sadness, it means that you are finally letting go of the pain or grief, which makes room for peace.
Keep doing this for awhile, and allow yourself to release your unconscious patterns.

S #22    Inner Divinity
Ask your inner wisdom, “What would be beneficial to bring in? “
“What would be beneficial to put out so that I can achieve the primary goal I wrote down?”
Write those things down.

G #6    Praying Mantis
Focus all of your energy, attention and thoughts on your primary task. What is required to complete it?

S #11    Earth
Let go of any unconscious, habitual patterns that prevent you from completing your primary task.

G #40    Mapacho
Are you ready, willing and able for things to change, both inwardly and outwardly?
If not, why not?

G #11    Raccoon
Release any agreements that prevent you from doing your best.
Make a new agreement that you now enjoy recognizing the distractions, decoys and manipulations that prevent you from keeping your eye on your primary goal.

G #47    Starlight
Align your consciousness and will with your higher good.

Make a new agreement to be free of oppression in whatever form it may take. Then place this symbol all throughout your garden.

Freedom form Oppression

Congratulations! Being focused on your primary goal is a very important way you can be proactive in minimizing abuse in the world around you.
