Sacred Cow Tipping - The Seeds of Hatred

Friday, May 4th, 2007

In recent weeks we have witnessed many examples of what happens when we expect anger and rage to solve our problems. Hatred of this kind is an acting out of ancient patterns that are crying out to be healed. You may say, “those incidents are just an anomoly, Cho was sick, most people don’t have that problem.”

Say that to the people in Iraq.

“But that’s way over there,” you may say. “The Sunni’s and Shiites all hate eachother.”

I recently went to a meeting to promote an economy built on peace and the hatred, resentment, superiority and indignation was palpable. I drove home and watched several people be cut off and flipped off. I walked into the house to find my husband watching the TV. His eyes were practically bugging out, he was so outraged by the lies of the pundits shouting at eachother and the politicians making their excuses. Within moments, I found myself completely buying into it.

Sorry, folks. It’s not just “out there.” It’s here in our hearts - a nasty old weed that feeds this Sacred Cow:

“The only way to solve a problem is by fighting with it.”

As Sacred Cows go, this one is primed to be tipped and if enough of us release our ancestral and collective agreement with it, we have a much better chance for seeking out a new way.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Allowing Compromise

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

The Status Quo contends that the purpose of agreements is to enforce their power and control. However the real purpose of agreements is so that we may all live together in greater harmony and peace. Another inherent quality of agreements is that they can be re-negotiated if they aren’t creating the desired effect.

However, what if the person(s) involved will not allow the compromise? This does happen, and we are witnessing it in our Leaders right now. They might be merely stubborn and inflexible, because dammit they MUST stay the course or they will be guilty of weakness. Another possibility is that they could be willfully ignoring other important agreements just so that they can remain in control. Either way, the results are the same. They cannot bring themselves to let go of the original agreement, so even though they say they are changing directions, they are still just staying the course. In addition, every time they make a new agreement, they compound the problems, confusion and social unrest that already exist.

What is the Sacred Cow controlling this unholy stalemate? Well, after all, we do have a pretty significant cultural agreement that:

“Any deviation from the pre-agreed agenda is a sign of weakness and can only be construed as failure.”

This inflexible, unmerciful Sacred Cow is standing behind the scenes keeping everyone stuck in the mud, not just our leaders. Play our tipping game. By releasing your personal, familial, social and collective agreement with it, we may be able to let ourselves off the hook, so that we can re-negotiate and move forward again.

Sacred Cow Tipping – Apocalypse Now?

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

The Status Quo is now behaving like an old Puritanical schoolmaster from the days of yore who has lost control of the classroom. Indignant and motivated by revenge, the powers that be spend their time vilifying the standouts and threatening everyone with dire, apocalyptic punishments.

Luckily, we have gotten past the point where we would be deterred from our convictions by being set in the corner with a dunce cap on our heads.  Unfortunately, we still have a little charge on the idea that we might just be blown to bits if we fail to do as we’re told.

That’s why today’s Sacred Cow is about another key survival motivation that is being used against us:

“Use revenge to motivate people to stay in line.”

If you are as tired as I am of the Status Quo using pain, punishment and threats as the way to maintain their agenda, play our tipping game and release any and all agreements to buy into it.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Survival Mentality

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

When the going gets tough, the Status Quo’s first step is to get very quiet and secretive. Information is withheld so as to create apprehension and anxiety among the people.

Next step:
Multiple leaks of conflicting and illogical information designed to create confusion, throwing the people off track from their original intention.

Next step:
Paint the members of the Status Quo as victims – misunderstood, filled with contrition without any genuine remorse or substantial responsibility taken. And if the people don’t accept that shallow, meaningless apology, they are painted as unfair, unkind and misguided.

Then the attacks begin:
The people go into survival mentality and become divided, the previous unity and consensus falls apart and …mission of the Status Quo complete.

The Status Quo would have us believe that it’s just the way we are. That’s why they created this old Sacred Cow and repeat it every chance they get:

“It’s every man for himself.”

It’s the ultimate agreement in survival mentality. It doesn’t even include women in the picture because that’s the way they want it. If we feel separate and forget that we have eachother, they can get away with whatever they want.

There is nothing new in this pattern. We’ve seen it all along.  Every battered woman lives through this same scenario countless times. Every partner or family member of an addict knows that sinking feeling in their stomach saying, “Oh, my god, it’s happening again.”

My intuition teaches me that the very first response is the one to believe. Think about what our very first response was to the events of September 11th.  Did we respond with “every man for himself?”

That is not the way we are. It’s time to cut off our agreement with believing that it’s every man for himself or that it’s just the way we are.

Please join me in playing our cow tipping game and share it with your brothers and sisters.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Polarized Thinking

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

The Sacred Cows for January have to do with our survival motivations and the either/or syndrome, i.e. “either you’re for us or against us,” “either you win or you lose,” and the infamous “either you’re right or you’re wrong.”
Thinking in absolutes is the basis of most survival issues and provides the fodder for war - “Either we stay in Iraq until we win or we cut and run.” This kind of polarized thinking is collective and filters down into our families and businesses to pollute our motivations and decision-making processes. In the end, either/or thinking makes it very difficult for us to cooperate with each other and build positive consensus in our projects.

I hope you will join me in playing our tipping game, where we consciously release any unconscious agreement we may have with this dangerous Sacred Cow:

“Limit the choices people make by speaking and thinking only in terms of black and white.”

Nature is our teacher as she adapts, recombines and evolves. She is filled with variables, creative combinations and surprising options. Maybe it’s time we followed her lead by letting go of our personal, business, national and collective agreements to limit ourselves in this way.As usual, I will post the others as they come up throughout the month on our Intuitive Learning Circle blog and selected forums.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Re-establishing Connection

Countdown: Day 1 out of 5 Days for Releasing Extremism and Fear

A baby requires attention and love. When those things are witheld or absent, the child’s growth and happiness is stunted. As an adult they may exhibit learning and behavioral difficulties, a fear of being abandoned or left behind. Or they may feel disconnected from themselves, other people, or the Earth.

In an attempt to feel connected, they often seek out organizations, gangs, or cults that promise a sense of belonging. Unfortunately, the connection is usually based on an “us vs. them” mentality, which only perpetuates the isolation and sets up the conditions for extremism.

This Sacred Cow has caused endless strife and suffering. As our last game in the series, I hope that you will take the time to release your personal, familial, cultural and collective agreements with:

“I am alone.”

Give yourself the gift of releasing the fear and loneliness of the past and join with others to build a new collective consciousness based on love, respect, and tolerance.

Thank you all for participating in our tipping game, and have a wonderful holiday season.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Releasing the Guilt

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Countdown: Day 2 out of 5 Days to Releasing Extremism and Fear

Today’s Sacred Cow is interesting because it is actually two beasts joined at the hip:

“There’s no way out.”

and

“What I say and do doesn’t matter.”

One is completely and utterly dependent on the other to hold intractable situations in place, for example the quandary that now exists in Iraq.

Whatever we say or do won’t matter because there’s no way out, and there’s no way out because we think whatever we say or do won’t matter.

Handling this double bind is going to require a bit of ingenuity. We can’t really tip them head on, however, we might be able to throw them off balance by releasing our personal, cultural and collective agreements to feel hopeless about there being no way out and then to release all agreements to feel guilty about anything that we have ever said or done.

Remember that guilt is a heavy weight placed upon us because we are not doing something that someone else wants us to do. Remorse, on the other hand, is a genuine and heart-felt desire for atonement.

By releasing the guilt and allowing genuine hope to flow more freely through our collective consciousness, we may be able to tip these cows.

Sacred Cow Tipping - The Power of Self-care

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

Countdown: Day 3 of 5 Days to Releasing Extremism and Fear

In today’s busy world, we often find ourselves vacillating between what we intuitively know is good for us and what others say we ought to be doing. We know it’s good to take care of our physical, emotional and spiritual needs, yet something keeps pulling us back into old self-destructive habits. Like a magnet or a moth to the flame, the draw into forgetfulness is a powerful Sacred Cow - one that is fully supported by the media and our educational systems.
This collective and societal agreement unconsciously drives us to various forms of unproductive behavior including:
1. Disrespecting ourselves.
2. Feeling that we can’t ask for help.
3. Ignoring messages from our bodies to rest and recuperate.
4. Feeling guilty for our own heart-felt desires.

These and other forms of self-abuse are tied into the Sacred Cow for today:

“It’s not okay to take good care of myself.”

As you play today’s game, ask yourself what you really want. Is taking care of yourself important? On a scale of one to ten, where do you rate taking care of yourself? And what would you do differently if you could?

Releasing your part with this agreement helps you to step out of the feedback loop, rebalance yourself and determine what’s really important.

When you heal yourself, you heal the world.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Unlocking Genius

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

Countdown: Day 4 out of 5 Days for Releasing Extremism and Fear

As children many of us were conditioned to think that what we thought didn’t matter. Perhaps we were called names that insulted our intellect or potential based upon our sex, race or social position.

Possibly we were thoughtlessly called stupid or moronic, simply because we didn’t agree with the Status Quo.

Whether we responded with fear or anger, our ability to stand up effectively for what we knew in our hearts was compromised or squelched entirely. That’s why today’s Sacred Cow is:

“What I think is not important.”

Experiment with the idea that every insult, trauma or lie is etched somewhere in your DNA like graffiti. Use the graphs in our game to clean, clear and restore each strand to it’s pristine condition. Breathe deeply, and in your mind’s eye, watch the DNA spirals relax and brighten. Allow them to change and reorganize themselves so that you can unlock the genius that lives within.

Sacred Cow Tipping - Remaining Focused

5 Days to Releasing Extremism and Fear

Timing is an important aspect of Tipping Sacred Cows. During the month of November, we all worked together to release the collective agreements that were holding us back from heading in a direction that accommodates peace and prosperity and the timing was perfect. The change in direction has occurred and is apparent to all, even the most stubborn among us.

My intuition tells me that the timing is right over the next few days to release more agreements that are preventing us from establishing balance and equilibrium and I would like to begin with this one:

“The squeaky wheel always gets the oil.”

As you play our tipping game, I suggest that you visualize releasing your personal, familial, cultural and collective aggreements to pay undue attention to the whiners, complainers, opportunists and trouble-makers. What you choose to do instead creates the foundation for your future happiness and focus in life.
